At the Muskingum Recreation Center, we have several personal trainers with varying backgrounds available to help you meet your fitness needs. Please read on to learn more about each of them.


Samantha “Sam” Davis– ACSM Certified Personal Trainer

Sam is  an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Personal Trainer. Sam attended Zane State College where she received her Associates Degree in Science/Health Studies with an emphasis in kinesiology and physical therapy. She has clinical experience in both inpatient and outpatient physical therapy settings. She is also CPR-AED certified through the American Heart Association.

As a trainer, it is Sam’s mission to share her enthusiasm and motivation towards health and fitness that can bring the best out of life’s potential. Sam is dedicated to help her clients achieve their weight loss goals. Contact information: 740-683-9461, sdavis1@zanestate.edu

Dakota Matz- ACSM Certified Personal Trainer

Dakota graduated from Zanesville High School in 2007 and played four years of basketball under Coach Scott Aronhalt. Dakota continued his education and playing basketball at Bethany College. Dakota contributed to a men’s basketball PAC championship season in ’07-08 with a NCAA tournament appearance and a PAC runner-up season in ’08-09 with an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament appearance. Dakota graduated with Cum Laude honors in May of 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with emphasis in Physical Therapy.

Dakota is an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Personal Trainer. His specialty is working to enhance the performance of athletes through strength gain, conditioning, and skill work.  Dakota is equipped to train individuals from various backgrounds, with different body builds, special populations, and has completed 150 hours of clinical observation within in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation facilities. Tam Nguyen- BS in Exercise Physiology

Tam is married with two kids and loves spending time with his family. Tam’s hobbies are golfing and fishing. Tam has been training people for 15 years now and really enjoys helping people improve their lifestyle Tam attended Ohio University from 1991-1995 and received his Bachlor’s of Science in Exercise Physiology. Tam also attended Ohio College of Massotherapy from 2002-2004 where Tam received his Associate’s Degree in Massotherapy. Tam’s specialties include: form/technique, posture and pain management, strength and conditioning, flexibility and stretching, neuromuscular and myofascial massage therapy. Tam is interested in training people who want to create a healthy lifestyle for themselves. Tam trains clients as young as 13 and clients over the age of 80. Contact information: 740-704-0999


Vince Ryan

Vince graduated from John Glenn High School in 2015 and is currently enrolled at Muskingum University. Vince plans on graduating in the spring of 2019 with intended majors in Health/Fitness, Business Management, and Health Administration with a minor in Nutrition.

Vince is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and is able to train people with different kinds of goals such as general/functional fitness, special populations health, physique, weight loss, athletic performance, etc. Vince is dedicated in using his knowledge and personal experience of exercise/fitness to help better the lives of people and create healthier lifestyles. Sarah Savage– NPTI Certified Personal Trainer

Sarah is a mother of 3 children and understands the hectic schedule of everyday life. Sarah was a Corrections Officer for the Zanesville Police Department from 1995-2010. Then Sarah enrolled at the National Personal Training Institute, located in Columbus, and became a certified personal trainer in January of 2011. Sarah has extensive knowledge of anatomy, exercise physiology and biomechanics. Sarah is able to design exercise programs for diverse population including special populations such as geriatrics, adolescents, pregnant women and those with specific musculoskeletal disorders or injuries. Sarah designs the most efficient workout for clients. Kelly Zumbro– ACE Certified Personal Trainer

Kelly is married to Scott and is a mother of three children. Kelly enjoys spending time with her friends and family, attending sporting events (especially basketball), running, biking, hiking, nutrition/ gardening, and strength training.

Kelly attended Hocking College where she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1995. Kelly returned to Hocking College and completed the Massage Program in 2007. Kelly has an Ohio Board of Nursing RN License and a State Medical Board of Ohio LMT License. Kelly is an ACE Certified personal trainer, which she received in 2005. Kelly is also an Advanced Cardiac Life Support provider.

Kelly’s broad focus is utilization of diverse knowledge and skills in nursing, personal training and massage therapy to try to make a difference in the lives of others in regard to wellness/preventative medicine. Kelly has the ability to design an exercise program for a diverse clientelle, but mostly trains women of all ages. Kelly is skilled in proper exercise instruction utilizing a variety of equipment and is knowledgeable in guidelines for proper diet and nutrition. Kelly is experienced in cardiovascular stress testing and procedures, as well as, cardiac education including angioplasty/stents, open heart surgery, heart attacks, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. Contact information: 740-297-1967

Nancy (Sandbrink) Jozwiak

Nancy’s passion to aid others in discovering the benefits of aqua fitness motivated her to earn an aquatic certification through FiTour. 

 These benefits include but are not limited to:

 Little to no impact on joints and bones

 Improves lung capacity for those with asthma, due to high room humidity

 Increases mobility, flexibility, and balance
